As some of you may have heard, I was traveling last month. And this time I decided to visit some places that were important to me as a movie fan, especially classics. I will write a series of articles telling you all about it. And the first place I visited was Tolochenaz, in Switzerland.

The house where Audrey lived, “La Paisible”, is located at Route de Lully 35, 1131 Tolochenaz, Switzerland. Today, the place is home to several families and, as it is private, it is not possible to visit it.

I should point out that we also saw a man entering the house. Probably one of the residents, since the house is now inhabited by several families. But did I have the courage to ask to take a peek? I didn’t have it.

Since I’m a person who likes to touch things and feel their energy, I touched the walls until I reached the gates. In the corner of the wall there is a plaque indicating that she lived there between 1963 and 1993.

A square in her honor!

Walking through the small streets, we arrived in 5 minutes at a square dedicated to the Belgian actress. There is a bust that was donated by Audrey’s sons (Sean and Luca) to the Tolochenaz municipality in 2012. In this square, Audrey would sit to relax, look at the flowers and watch time go by. Of course, I sat there. Here are some photos:

The little leaflet I picked up at the location.

I was all stupid sitting on the bench she was sitting on!!!

On the plaque: “I spend a lot of time in my garden. I often look up at the sky to try to figure out the weather for my flowers. In the summer, we have violent storms because we live near the lake. The next day, they are bent over and I have to prop them up. They bounce back. That’s what I find extraordinary, the plans and their determination. With a little help, they come back to life.”

The cemetery where she is buried

Audrey died on January 20, 1993 at her home in Tolochenaz. She was diagnosed with cancer while doing humanitarian work for UNICEF and quickly fell ill. Walking about 10 minutes from her home, we saw the church where her funeral was held:

The cemetery is simple and located on a small hill. The silence is broken only by the rustling of the leaves on the trees and by a few cars passing by on the avenue. When I entered the tiny cemetery, I already knew that her grave was located on the right side. But when I saw the marble cross with her name written on it, I was moved. There were flowers there, as on several other graves around.

In addition to the flowers, there were photos probably left by other fans. The moment I touched her cross, I cried. I didn’t know how to react at that moment. It was the closest I would get to her. So I thanked her.

Her tomb was simple like the actress.

It’s not hard to understand why Audrey chose this small town. With less than 2,000 inhabitants, Tolochenaz exudes peace, simplicity and beauty. Everything Audrey represents.
