Jerry Lewis, legendary comedian and star of classic films, dies at 91. A tribute to his genius in comedy and lifelong dedication to humanitarian work.

It was with great sadness that we received the news of Jerry Lewis’ death at the age of 91. According to his agent, he passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas. The news was given by journalist John Katsilometes and confirmed by other media outlets. The cause of death has not yet been released. The comedian was born on March 16, 1926 in New Jersey. Raised by his grandmother while his parents performed in concert halls, he soon began to perform in nightclubs as well. At the age of 18, he was already a professional, and his career took off when he met Dean Martin, with whom he formed a comedy duo. They became popular, with dance and comedy routines. In 1949, the two made their film debut in “My Friend Irma”. In 1956, the duo broke up, when Jerry decided to act alone. Once he was in control, he began to direct and produce some of his films, and continued to enjoy great popularity during the 1960s, with films such as “The Nutty Professor” (1963), in which he plays a professor who discovers a formula for becoming an attractive man.
During the 1960s and 1970s, Lewis began to work for charitable causes and wrote his biography “Jerry Lewis”. In the 1980s, he began to have health problems, with a heart attack, and was even diagnosed as dead. He miraculously survived. In 1983, he was called by Martin Scorsese to play “The King of Comedy”, alongside Robert De Niro. The result was a show of acting, playing the anxious and sweaty host of a talk show. In the 1990s, he worked on Broadway in “Damn Yankees”, and began to dedicate himself to UNICEF. In 1998, he received a lifetime achievement award from the American Comedians Association.
