Charmian Carr, best known for her role in The Sound of Music, passed away on September 18, 2016 at the age of 73. Her death was due to complications from a rare form of dementia. The news was announced on her official website.
The actress, who was born in Chicago, moved with her family to Los Angeles when she was 10 years old. She was the daughter of vaudeville performers, and while studying music and philosophy, one of her friends told her about an audition for the film The Sound of Music. It was her chance to play a 16-year-old girl. Despite her lack of hope, she sent in her photo and was surprised to find herself chosen to play Liesl Von Trapp.
Charmian is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Brent and Emily Brent, and four grandchildren.
