Paul Newman was born in 1925 in Ohio, USA. He served in the Navy during World War II before graduating with a degree in Economics and studying at the Actors Studio. Newman made his Broadway debut in the play Picnic, which opened doors to his film career. He signed a contract with Warner Bros., beginning his screen work with The Silver Chalice (1954). However, his breakthrough role came with Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956).

In 1958, Newman married Joanne Woodward, to whom he remained devoted until his death. Together, they had three daughters, and Newman had three sons from a previous marriage. He starred in a number of iconic films including Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958), alongside Elizabeth Taylor, The Hustler (1961), Cool Hand Luke (1967), and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969). Newman also directed his wife Joanne Woodward in Rachel, Rachel (1968). Throughout the 1960s, his success continued with acclaimed films like Hud (1963), Torn Curtain (1966), and Winning (1969).

In the 1970s, Newman slowed his pace in film but remained active in the industry. He founded a cancer charity, was politically active as a liberal, owned a natural foods business, and ran a successful auto racing team. Over his career, Newman was nominated for eight Academy Awards, reflecting his lasting impact on Hollywood. In his later years, he dedicated himself to philanthropy. Paul Newman passed away on September 26, 2008, leaving behind a remarkable legacy as one of cinema’s most charismatic and talented actors.
