Mitzi Gaynor was born on September 4, 1931. Her real name is Francesca Marlene de Czanyi von Gerber and she was successful in several musicals.

Born in Chicago, she was the daughter of a dancer and a violinist. At the age of 11, she moved with her family to Hollywood. There she began studying ballet and music. At the age of 17, she signed a contract with Twentieth Century-Fox. She made her debut in the short film It’s Your Health (1949) and in 1950 she landed a role in the film The Stork Is Late (1950).

Her forte was musical comedies, in which she played light roles. Her first major role was in Venus in Gold (1951). With its success, she also starred in The I Don’t Care Girl (1952) and The World of Fantasy (1954), her most popular film, which featured the great Marilyn Monroe .

The actress was married to Jack Bean in 1954 and the two remained together until his death in 2006. Bean became her manager. In 1956 she signed a contract with Paramount, where she starred in, among others, Les Girls (1957). Her most notable role was in South Pacific (1958), which earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress.

Her roles became scarcer and in 1963 she said goodbye to cinema with a role in For Love or Money. The actress also had a career in the series Laugh-In, between 1968 and 1969.

In addition to being an actress, Mitzi also sang and participated in several programs, even recording two albums. After retiring from the screen, she continued to perform in Las Vegas show houses. In the 90s, she became a columnist for The Hollywood Reporter magazine.
