Dom Ameche was born on May 31, 1908, the son of a bartender and a housewife. His family was large and his parents had eight children. Initially, Ameche wanted to be a lawyer and thought about studying Law, but he ended up giving up and deciding to invest in an artistic career.

In 1932, he married Honore Prendergast. The couple would remain together until the actor’s death and would have six children. His artistic career began while he was studying at college and he had to replace an actor who was absent that day. He liked it and sought out professional opportunities.

In 1935, he managed to get hired and made his debut in Conquest of an Empire, an adventure starring Ronald Colman. Well, it was a start, and he made his way to become one of the most popular actors of the late 1930s and 1940s.

Among his most successful films are In Old Chicago (1938), The Story of Alexander Graham Bell (1939) and Heaven Can Wait (1943), among others. Alongside Carmen Miranda, he appeared in Down Argentine Wa (1940) and That Night in Rio (1941).

It could be said that the peak of his career was in this period, when he was considered a heartthrob. Ameche also developed a career in radio and television, and also worked sporadically in theater. But the actor continued his career throughout the decades, working practically until his death on December 6, 1993, at the age of 85.
