Vincent Leonard Price was born in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, on May 27, 1911. His father was the president of the National Candy Company (a candy factory), so he was educated in the best schools. He studied Art History and Fine Arts. At the age of 30 he became interested in theater, becoming a professional in 1935.
His screen debut came with “Service de Luxe” in 1938. In 1939 the actor made his first appearance in a horror film in Tower of London. Several roles followed in The Web (1947), The Long Night (1947), Rogues’ Regiment (1948) and The Bribe (1949). Other notable films included Otto Preminger’s Laura (1944), Brigham Young (1944) and The Song of Bernadette (1943).
In the 1950s he began to make horror films more regularly, such as “House of Wax” (1953) and the classic “The Fly” (1958), among others. One of his last films was Edward Scissorhands in 1990. The actor also dedicated himself to on television. In the 1960s he played the villain “Egghead” in the Batman series. He died on October 25, 1993. A well-known figure in over 100 films, Vincent earned two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: one for his work in film and the other for television.
