Maria Montez was born on June 6, 1912, in the Dominican Republic. After passing a test at Universal, she made her screen debut in “Lucky Devils” in 1940. In it, she made a cameo appearance in a bathing suit in a beauty contest. Soon after, she would become one of the queens of Technicolor, being cast in roles of exotic women in films such as Arabian Nights (1942), White Savage (1943), Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (1944), Cobra Woman (1944), Sudan (1945) and Pirates of Monterey (1947).
These films were considered a kind of escape during the war and post-war period. Maria also appeared in films in Europe. She died in 1951, when she suffered a heart attack while taking a bath in her bathtub. She was only 39 years old. She had only one daughter, also actress Tina Aumont, from her relationship with actor Jean-Pierre Aumont.
