Explore the full biography of Linda Darnell, the stunning actress whose talent and beauty lit up classic Hollywood before her untimely death.

Linda was born Monetta Eloyse Darnell on October 16, 1923, in Dallas, Texas, the third of five siblings. At age 11, she began working as a model for a store. At age 13, she made her acting debut in Hollywood, but it was discovered that she had lied about her age and she had to return to her hometown. She continued acting in plays for a long time, until she returned to Hollywood in 1939. She starred in the films “Blood and Sand” (alongside Tyrone Power), “Hangover Square” and “My Darling Clementine”. With “Star Dust”, she achieved stardom at Twentieth Century-Fox, becoming one of the biggest stars of the 1940s. Ten years later, she left the screen, disillusioned with the weak roles she was offered. She returned in 1965 to act in “Black Spurs”. In 1965, at the age of 41, she was watching TV when a fire broke out in the house. Linda tried to save someone (who she didn’t know had already escaped) but was unable to save herself: she suffered burns to 80% of her body and died after being hospitalized for some time.
