Joyce Penelope Wilhelmina Frankenberg, better known as Jane Seymour, was born on February 15, 1951, in London.

Her mother was a Dutch nurse, and her father an English doctor. Because of this, she learned two languages from childhood. When she was at art school, she adopted the name Jane Seymour in honor of the third wife of King Henry VIII. Jane was born with heterochromia, a condition that causes her eyes to have two different colors. Her right eye is brown, and her left eye is green.

Her screen career began in 1969 when she acted in Oh! What a Lovely War. It was a small role, but it provided experience for her career. In 1973, she landed her first television role in the series The Onedin Line. International recognition came with her participation in the James Bond film, Live and Let Die.

In the 1980s, she acted on stage alongside Ian McKellen and Tim Curry in Amadeus. For her performance, she received a Tony Award nomination. In the same year, she played the role that would give her greater recognition: Elise McKenna in the film Somewhere in Time. Although it had a small budget, the film became one of the biggest successes of the decade, especially in Brazil. It also marked the beginning of a great friendship with actor Christopher Reeve, who was the godfather of one of her sons, Kristopher. The film’s success also led her to begin a career as a self-help writer.

In 1981, Jane appeared in the television film East of Eden, based on the novel by John Steinbeck. The TV movie is not a remake of the version released in the 1950s, which starred James Dean in the lead role. This one focuses on the character Cathy, the boys’ mother. It was enough for her to receive a Golden Globe Award.

Her career continued with immense success during the 1980s and 1990s. In the 2000s, she dedicated herself mainly to television and theater.

The actress has been married four times. The first was to Michael Attenborough (1971 to 1973), then to Geoffrey Planer (1977 to 1978), her third husband was David Flynn (1981 to 1992), with whom she had two children, and she has been married to James Keach since 1993, with whom she also had two children. She became an American citizen and works for various charities, including UNICEF.
