Glenn Ford

Glenn Ford was born in Quebec in May 1916. Around 1935, he joined a theater company. After several unsuccessful auditions, he managed to get into FOX, debuting in Heaven with a Barbed Wire Fence (1939). This was followed by some B-movies, and he finally began to establish himself in Westerns and noirs.

After serving in the U.S. Navy, he would make a film for which he would be remembered: Gilda in 1946, with Rita Hayworth. This was followed by various successes, ranging from Westerns, dramas, and comedies, which made him increasingly popular. By 1955, now at MGM, he would enter the list of the top 10 highest-grossing actors.

In the 1960s, he continued working, but his box office success was no longer the same. He did the TV series Sam Cade, where he won a Logie Award, and continued to make some films, including Superman in 1978, where he played the adoptive father of the Man of Steel. The actor was married four times. The first time to actress Eleanor Powell (who abandoned her career to dedicate herself to their son), Kathryn Hays, Cynthia Hayward, and Jeanne Baus.

His last years were peaceful, on a ranch. He passed away in August 2006 from complications caused by a stroke.
