Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Mississippi, of Scottish descent. His father was arrested for forging checks when he was still a child and the rest of the family, Elvis and his mother, were evicted from their home. Around 1945, he got his first opportunity when he participated in a talent competition. He came in 2nd place with the song “Old Shep”. In 1954, he released his first album and his songs began to be played on the Memphis radio. Finally, he became successful, with appearances on radio and television programs. In 1956, Elvis starred in his first film, “Love Me Tender”. It was such a huge success that several more films followed in the same vein, always with the star singing his most recent songs. The singer starred in 31 productions, including: Jailhouse Rock (1957), King Creole (1958), Blue Hawaii (1961) and Viva Las Vegas (1964). He would have starred in A Star is Born, alongside Barbra Streisand, but his manager did not accept the project.
Elvis is known as the King of Rock and Roll; among his greatest hits are: “Love me Tender”, “All Shook up”, “Teddy Bear”, “Jailhouse Rock”, “It’s Now Or Never”, “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, “Surrender”, “Crying In The Chapel”, “Mystery Train”, “In The Ghetto”, “Suspicious Minds”, among others.
The great singer was found dead on August 16, 1977, at his home in Memphis.
