Explore the remarkable life and career of Christopher Plummer, the award-winning actor known for iconic roles and lasting impact on film and theater.

Christopher Plummer (2)

Christopher Plummer was born Arthur Christopher Orme Plummer on December 13, 1929, in Ontario, Canada. He became famous for his role in the film “The Sound of Music” (1965), where he played Captain Von Trapp alongside Julie Andrews. But the actor has a solid career spanning 84 years, and is still active. The actor was born on December 13, 1929, and was given the name Arthur Christopher Orme Plummer. Initially, Plummer wanted to be a pianist, but soon his life goal was to become an actor. And so it was.

After several appearances in TV shows and series, he made his film debut in Stage Struck, directed by Sidney Lumer. In his second film, Wind Across the Everglade (1958), he gained a little more prominence, but apparently he couldn’t achieve anything else in the cinema.

But cinema was not the only form of expression for an actor, and he also dedicated himself zealously to the theater. In the end, he ended up having a long career in three main segments: cinema, theater and TV. Naming his best films is difficult precisely because of his long career that spans six decades (and is still active). But look at these: The Fall of the Roman Empire (1964), Inside Daisy Clover (1965), The Man Who Would Be King (1975) and, especially, The Sound of Music.

The actor was married three times: to Tammy Grimes (1956-1960). From this relationship, Amanda was born, who also became an actress. In 1962, he married Patricia Lewis, a journalist. The relationship ended in 1967. Finally, he married the actress (Elaine Taylor) in 1970. The two remain together.

From the 1980s onwards, Plummer continued to shine in the theatre but, with a few exceptions, he reduced his film work to secondary roles. Somewhere in Time (1980), Eye of Witness (1982), Malcolm X (1992), Lobo (1994) and 12 Monkeys (1995) are among the most notable. The actor continues to act, but as he gets older he is given more secondary roles.
