Anthony Hopkins was born on December 31, 1937. He has many unforgettable characters on his resume, and is the star of the film The Two Popes, which premiered on Netflix. Among his most memorable characters are Hannibal Lecter from The Silence of the Lambs and its sequel.
Philip Anthony Hopkins was born in Wales. The son of a baker, he grew up in the working class and this made him self-aware from an early age. “Whenever I feel that I might be special or different, I think of my father and his hard, broken hands,” he once said.
His debut was in 1960 at the Palace Theatre in London, in the play Have a Cigarette. After appearing in several productions, he was seen by Laurence Olivier who invited him to work as his understudy in a play. Among the actors who influenced him the most was Richard Burton . His television debut was in A Flea in Her Ear (1967) on the BBC. The actor continued to act on stage and on television when he made his film debut in The White Bus (1967), followed by The Lion in Winter (1968).
Since then, there have been more than 138 productions. Among the most notable are The Silence of the Lambs (1991), The Remains of the Day (1993), Meet Me (1998), Hannibal (2001), Fracture (2007) and The Two Popes (2019).

The actor has lived in Malibu, California since the 1970s and currently holds dual citizenship. Anthony has been married three times: to Petronella Baker (1966 – 1972), Jennifer Lynton (1973 – 2002) and Stella Arryave (who he has been married to since 2003). The actor has no contact with his daughter Abigail, the fruit of his first marriage to Petronella. According to the interview, he does not mind not keeping in touch with her or his grandchildren.
He was awarded a Knight of the Order of the British Empire in the 1992 New Year’s Honours List for his services to drama. His favourite hobbies include painting and playing the piano. He also loves music and has said that he would have liked to have attended music college. Anthony also devotes much of his time to philanthropy, donating to a number of charities.
