Norma Shearer em Marie Antoniete, 1938

Norma Shearer was born in Quebec, Canada, in August 1902. She began her artistic career as a model, winning a beauty contest in her city. After that, she moved to New York. She auditioned, along with her sister Athole, in the Ziegfield Follies. She was cast in several low-budget films, having made her film debut in 1920, in the film The Flapper, directed by Alan Crosland.
Hired by MGM, she got good roles, many of them because of her marriage to Irving Thalberg. She won an Oscar for the film “The Divorcee”, in 1930. After Thalberg’s death, she was somewhat left aside, although she got some good roles, such as in Marie Antoninette and The Women, in 1938 and 1939, respectively. After remarrying a skier, in 1942, she withdrew completely from the cinema. She died in mid-1983, in the United States.
