The actor, born on June 20, 1928, began his career as a cartoonist for the New York Daily. But he dreamed of becoming an actor from an early age. To do so, he began a course at the famous Actors Studio. There he met James Dean, who became a great friend.

His debut initially came on stage and on TV. Some notable films in which he appeared were North by Northwest, Cleopatra and the series Mission: Impossible.

Landau received several awards throughout his career, being nominated three times for an Oscar for his roles in “Tucker” (1988), “Crimes and Misdemeanors” (1989) and “Ed Wood” (1994), winning for the latter. The last film he appeared in was Remember, released in 2015.

The legendary actor passed away on July 15, 2017 at the UCLA Medical Center, according to the website TMZ. The actor had been hospitalized previously, but suffered cardiac arrest. He left behind two daughters, Susan and Juliet, from his relationship with fellow actress Barbara Bain.
