Jessica Lange: Biography, Career Highlights, and Fascinating Facts
Explore Jessica Lange’s biography, award-winning career, and fascinating curiosities that made her a legend in film, TV, and theater.

Jessica Lange was born in Cloquet, Minnesota, on April 20, 1949. Her mother was a housewife and her father was a traveling salesman. This meant that the family was constantly moving from one city to another, making it difficult for Jessica and her siblings to study.
When she finally finished her studies at Cloquet High School, she received a scholarship to study photography at the University of Minnesota. She only attended the university for two years, but it was enough time for her to meet her first husband, Paco Grande. The two traveled around the country, but separated when they left for Paris. There she joined the Parisian Opéra-Comique, dedicating herself to dancing.
A short time later, she returned to America, settling in New York. While looking for a place in the sun, she worked as a waitress and sporadically posed as a model. Passing the audition to act in King Kong (1976) would change her life. She was still not a good actress, and her performance was often ridiculed. This caused her to temporarily retire from acting and start studying more and more. After three years, she returned to films, playing the angel of death in Bob Fosse’s All That Jazz (1979). At that time, she was romantically involved with the director and choreographer Fosse.
She still played some minor roles until she starred in Fraces, a biography of the troubled actress Frances Farmer. It could be said that this was a turning point in her career. The actress received two Oscar nominations in the same year, for Frances and Tootsie. For the latter, she received her first Oscar as a supporting actress. In 1995, she would win again, but this time as best actress in Blue Sky. After disappearing from the screens in the early 2000s, she returned in 2003 in Big Fish, a Tim Burton film in which she played Albert Finney’s wife. Later, she would dedicate herself to TV series such as American Horror Story and Feud.
