Walt Disney Biography: The Visionary Behind Animation and Theme Parks

Walt Disney was born in Chicago on December 5, 1901. His family moved to Marceline, Missouri. He became interested in the arts from an early age, selling drawings to his neighbors. After studying art and photography, he entered McKinley High School in Chicago. He tried to enlist for World War I, but was rejected due to his age.

Even so, he worked helping the Red Cross in France. After the war, he started the Laugh-O-Grams company, which quickly became successful. In 1928, his most famous character appeared: Mickey Mouse. Others followed, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, Uncle Scrooge and Minnie. In 1937, he made his first animated feature film: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Numerous other productions followed, some with animated images, others with real images, and others still, combining the two genres, such as Mary Poppins (1964). In addition to film studios, the vast empire created by Walt Disney includes several theme parks (Disneyland and Eurodisney), television channels and significant revenues from the direct sale of films and books and from the rights to use the characters’ images by other entities.Walt Disney became a legend, having created, with the help of his team, an entire universe of references in the children’s imagination of successive generations.
