Maureen O’Hara Dies at 95: Remembering the Irish Screen Legend

Maureen O’Hara, the legendary Irish actress known for her vibrant roles and captivating presence, has passed away peacefully at the age of 95.

Actress Maureen O’Hara, famous for her many roles in the 1950s, passed away on October 24, 2015. According to her family, the actress died peacefully in her sleep.

“It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Maureen O’Hara passed away of natural causes in her sleep. She was our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family,” her family said.

From a large family, she dreamed of being a theater actress from an early age. At the age of six, she was already studying theater, although her father did not support her at first. To please her father, she studied business, in case her acting career did not work out. But it was not necessary, since in 1938 she made her first appearance in a film in Kicking the Moon Around.

The following year she would act in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Her first major success was in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, where she played Esmeralda. Other successful films were How Green Was My Valley (1941), The Passion of a Life (1955), Rio Grande (1950) and The Quietest Hour (1952). Maureen was married three times and had only one daughter, Bronwyn FitzSimons. The actress was honored with an Honorary Oscar in 2014.
