Olivia Newton-John was one of the most iconic figures in cinema and music. Known worldwide for playing the legendary role of Sandy in the film Grease (1978), she won the hearts of millions with her duet “You’re the One That I Want” alongside John Travolta, who played Danny Zuko. This scene became one of the most memorable moments in cinema history and marked the breakthrough of her career. In addition to being an actress, Olivia was a successful singer, with four Grammy Awards and five hits that reached number one on the music charts.

Recognition and Legacy

Olivia Newton-John received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a well-deserved recognition for her contribution to entertainment. Born in Cambridge, United Kingdom, in 1948, she moved to Australia at the age of four, where she grew up and began her artistic career. Despite her success, her life was not only full of joy and achievements.

The First Battle with Cancer

In 1992, Olivia was diagnosed with breast cancer. After successful treatment, she remained free of the disease for almost 21 years. During that time, she continued her career and inspired many with her resilience and optimism.

The Return of Cancer

Unfortunately, in 2013, the cancer returned and spread to her shoulder. Olivia decided to keep the news a secret at first. In an interview with the Sunday Night program, she revealed, “I thought it was the end of my life and I decided to keep it to myself.” After another successful treatment, she believed she had beaten the disease again.

The Devastating Diagnosis of 2017

In 2017, Olivia received more devastating news: the cancer had returned and spread to her lower back. Despite the diagnosis, she remained strong and positive, counting on the unconditional support of her husband, John Easterling. “My husband is always there and supports me. I think I’m going to beat it, that’s my goal,” she said in an interview.

Her daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, 33, has spoken about the emotional impact her mother’s illness has had on the family. In an interview with 60 Minutes, Chloe revealed: “I would wake up every now and then with panic attacks. I couldn’t deal with it straight away.”

Gratitude and Resilience

On August 5, 2019, Olivia appeared on 60 Minutes Australia to speak openly about her battle with cancer. She expressed gratitude for having survived the disease three times and stressed the importance of living each day as a gift. “I’m very lucky to have been through it three times and still be here. I’m living with it. It’s just reinforced my gratitude,” she said.

Olivia also reflected on the importance of maintaining a positive mindset in the face of a difficult diagnosis: “If someone tells you that you have six months to live, you’re probably going to believe that. So for me, psychologically, it’s better to have no idea what to expect. I don’t need that.”
