Douglas Fairbanks began his career on Broadway, where he was discovered by D. W. Griffith, who brought him to work for Triangle Films. He made his film debut in 1916 with His Picture in the Papers. From there, his career took off, starring in films such as American Aristocracy (1916), Wild and Woolly (1917), and Reaching for the Moon (1917). By 1917, Fairbanks had become a major celebrity.

He was part of an exclusive circle of friends that included Charlie Chaplin. In 1919, alongside Chaplin, Mary Pickford, and D. W. Griffith, he co-founded United Artists, a groundbreaking film studio. The following year, Fairbanks starred in The Mark of Zorro (1920), directed by Fred Niblo, which became one of his most iconic films.

However, Douglas Fairbanks struggled to transition successfully into talking pictures. His last film was The Private Life of Don Juan (1934). His son, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., followed in his footsteps, pursuing a similar career in Hollywood.

Douglas Fairbanks passed away in 1939 at the age of 56 due to a heart attack, leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of the silent film era’s greatest stars.
